“For me it is all about the joy of painting”

Laurent Félix-Faure was born in 1935 and spent his childhood in Australia. He then moved on to Norway, Portugal, France and The Netherlands where he met his wife Anke while attending business school. He worked for various international organisations, mainly for 28 years until his retirement as Secretary of the International Pharmaceutical Federations (FIP). For some time he was the correspondent for the French daily newspaper “Le Monde”. In addition to his professional activiry, he also the co-founder of the Art Gallery “Art Propos” in The Hague.

An avid reader, and a lover of art and history, Laurent was never without a sketchbook at hand. His love of art resulted both in works of art and books about art. Laurent’s books on Dutch art were written while he was in The Netherlands and where he raised his 3 children. The book “Land of Skies and Water” even made it to the Dutch Royal Palace and was used as a promotional gift by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs who distributed it to embassies abroad. It also was used by the Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen as the plan for an exhibition on the same theme.

Having resided in many countries and visited many more, Laurent and his wife Anke de Vries moved permantly to the Drôme Provençale which immediately appealed to them, as it offers a mixture of some of the most beautiful landscapes they have come across during their travels. The fact that history and tradition are omnipresent in la Drôme is an addional appeal: old towns and villages that go back to medieval times abound, not less than 600 castles, hundreds of Romanesque churches and farmhouses made of stone, are scattered all over the countryside.

Currently, he writes a bi-monthly blog (“Provence Reflections“) on artists in the Drôme to which you can register for free through this website.
